THE ODZUN COMPLEX
Odzun monumental complex consists primarily of the Odzun Basilica, dating back to the VIth Century, which forms the focal point of the complex. The Odzun Basilica was considered as one of the main spiritual centers of the Gugark' Province. The funeral monument, sonsisting of two obelisks, was erected in the VIIIth century. A number of masterfully crafted khachkars or cross-stones are also in the vicinity of the Basilica. The Church of Tsiranavor-Tsałkavank' is to the east of the Basilica, and the Church of Horomayr is also in the same vicinity. Historical accounts of the Basilica and its importance were made by chronicler Vardan Arevelçi who described it as the monastic center of Gugark'.
