Written by Gevork Nazaryan

Catholicos Gregory began to establish new churches throughout Western Armenia, the very ancient Sun Worshiping center of Aštišat was destroyed. The Grand Temple of the Holy City of Aštišat was converted into a Christian church. In 303, the construction of the Mother Church of the Apostolic Church, on the very spot of destroyed heathen Atrušan -- Eternal Fire -- Temple, in the capital city of Vałaršapat. According to the tradition the location was chosen after St. Gregory had a vision in which Christ came down to the heavens and pointed to the stop where the new seat of the Church would be built -- Ech-Mia-Dzin or the Descent of the Only Begotten Son. The newly built Cathedral became the spiritual center, most of the people still remembered in their collective consciousness the sacred Atrušan . Most of the people were baptized in the sacred rivers of Armenia Aratsani [upper Euphrates] and Erasx [Arax].
